Corrections, Clarifications, and Notes for - Rising Above The Rim: Bill Russell and the Reinvention of Basketball First Edition March 16, 2011 In the notes for Chapter 6, I make a reference to the Harlem Magicians playing preliminary games at the Boston Garden, as part of doubleheaders with the Celtics. I also added an (incomplete) note that Celtics owner Walter Brown had told Harlem Globetrotters owner Abe Saperstein that the Globetrotters would never play at the Garden again after Saperstein attempted to stop Brown from drafting Chuck Cooper in 1951. What I should have written is that despite this threat - which is documented in several sources as if Brown actually went through with it - the Globetrotters did play at the Garden while Brown owned the team. There are numerous articles in the Boston Globe in the late 1950's that document their appearances at the Garden.
